This is why fios rules. 35 Mb/s up/down. I was abusing it today…uploading and downloading huge files simultaneously. How did it hold up? Well, look at the picture. At the time of the screenshot, it was 4.5MB/s each way. 4.5 megabytes. And if you look at the history graph, you can see that upload and download don’t compete against each other, thus maxing out at a combined 9MB/s total bandwith. The noise in the upload (red) is likely due to the fact that I was uploading many smaller files. Impressive nerd stuff right here, folks.

I often times go for a dip in the drink and do some body surfing after my run in the morning. This morning I was treated to DOZENS of 4-5 foot Leopard sharks all around me. I’ve seen a few from time to time out there and they’re quite harmless, but never in those numbers. Quick research suggests that shrimp and other little critters that they like to nibble on are plentiful this time of year and they come out in numbers to chow on the grub. It was a treat to share the surf with them!

So I’ve been lucky enough to have recently been shipped to Boston for work on a Visa/NFL commercial. The day before work my mom drove up from the Cape and we headed north to Rockport for the day (Rockport apparently doubled for Sitka, Alaska in the movie The Proposal). While there I ate fried clams. Now, believe me, having grown up on Cape Cod I’ve had some mighty fine clams in my day, but these clams were off the hook. Like, unfair. These clams, from Ipswich, were ridiculously sweet and tender.

So when you rest your head on your pillow tonight, know this … my clams are better than you.

Enlightenment Hole

This one is from ages ago (April 2008) but it’s worth posting again here. While at Todai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan, we heard the Legend that if you can squeeze your fat bones through this tiny hole in large wooden support beam (roughly the size of one of Buddah’s nostrils on the big statue at :24 into the video) then you become enlightened. It’s up for debate whether getting yourself through the hole on your own steam provides any more enlightenment than being violently and painfully pulled through by a totally unknown German tourist. Your call.
